A Part of the Heart

This artwork showcases the importance of inclusion and the ongoing acceptance, services, and supports that the KC area offers to people with developmental disabilities. The front side depicts a young man using a wheelchair and raising his arms while his hands are making the American Sign Language signs for the letters “K” and “C”. The back side depicts a girl with Down Syndrome, signifying that she and others with disabilities are more than symbols and signs, such as colored ribbons or disability parking. More than 30,000 people in the region have a developmental disability or a family member with one and the hope is that people viewing the heart recognize people with disabilities are a part of our community.
