BRIDGING KC

The connection of Kansas City citizens from north & south across the Missouri River is at the heart of this concept. Bridge images illustrate the 4 bridges that span the MO. River between Downtown and the River Market. Bridge designs highlight construction technology throughout the history of Kansas City. These stylized line drawings are placed on a pastoral landscape background with a white border in order to create a nostalgic “scenic postcard” feel, while the K and C letters act as a bridge throughout the composition. Inspirations: Historic Postcard; showing the first bridge over the Missouri River. Varied bridge designs; the historic rusted steel truss BNSF Railway / Hannibal Bridge, the arched painted steel Broadway / Buck O’Neil Bridge, the cross braced double level ASB Railway Bridge, and the contemporary concrete suspension Cristopher S. Bond Bridge. The background landscape imagery of the design will continue onto the back of heart.

Artist Spotlight

Denise DiPiazzo, Redtrike Studios

I have lived and worked as an artist, architect, and educator in the Kansas City area for over 30 years and continuously look for ways to interact with my community to celebrate the strength of our amazing city through art. I think of my art as a form of visual storytelling that creates a series of viewports that look backward and forward through time while exploring the notions of place and origin.
