Kansas City River View

View ArtistI created the Kansas City River View Heart because of the history of the rivers to our region. The Kansas City metropolitan area started in the 19th century as Frenchmen from St. Louis, MO and moved up the Missouri River to trap for furs and trade with the Native Americans. The Kansas City metropolitan area, straddling the border between Missouiri and Kansas at the confluence of Kansas and Missouri Rivers, was a strategic point for commerce and security. The area played a major role in the westward expansion of the United States. The rivers can sometimes cause flooding, but they also bring prosperity. It’s important to remember our history, which can bring us together if we look at it in the right way. Just like art, which can also bring us together. As you look at these Hearts located throughout the Kansas City region, start a discussion with the person next to you. Ask them, “What’s your favorite part about this piece? What’s your favorite color?” The best thing about art is that everybody’s “favorite” will be different. I mean, that’s the best thing about art. It’s okay to be different. It’s always okay to be different.
