Heartland Toile
Inspired by vintage toile and chinoiserie patterns, this heart features beloved Kansas City landmarks in a dreamy blue-and-white palette. I love toile. It’s beautiful, classic, and full of storytelling. I also wanted to share its history with my students, teaching them about its roots in 18th-century France and the tradition of pattern as a form of visual narrative.
Each vignette was hand-drawn and painted with the help of my students at Westwood View Elementary, celebrating the city’s rich culture, history, and hidden gems through collaboration and joy. This heart is meant to make you smile, spot something familiar, and fall in love with Kansas City all over again.
