The Dala horse, or in this case, a Dala heart, is a Swedish symbol of good luck, strength, and warm wishes. Often found on the front of houses, they bear the family name or a warm Valkommen (welcome).

I grew up near Lindsborg, Kansas, otherwise known as Little Sweden USA. A Dala horse can be seen on nearly every house, bearing the family name or a warm Valkommen (Welcome). I wanted to apply my take on Swedish Dala horse folk art to this year's Parade of Hearts in order to bring a little bit of home (and Sweden) to KC.
