Heartland Patchwork

One side of Heartland Patchwork welcomes visitors with alternating sawtooth stars and a frayed four patch chain quilt blocks in blues and golds while the other side is made of alternating red and yellow pinwheels. The top of the base represents a double wedding ring quilt and the sides of the base are wrapped in flying geese blocks. The repeating yellow borders provide consistency and cohesion to tie everything together.

I am a quilter because the feel of fabric under my fingertips and tangible finished products provide balance to eight hours spent working in front of a computer screen everyday. My goals as Parade of Hearts artist are to translate recognizable quilt blocks onto the sculpture to promote and celebrate the rich tradition of quilting and, more importantly, to encourage everyone to embrace their creativity. If a working mom like me can present herself in the world as an artist, I hope it inspires others to take bold chances with their inner artist and see what happens!
